Baby Photography in West London

Capturing portraits of fathers during a baby photography session in West London

I loved returning to photograph this family and their second newborn baby at their home in West London. The first time I met them was 4 years ago to photograph their first baby. It is always an honour and a compliment to be asked to return and continue the tradition.

There are a multitude of pictures I would like to share from this photoshoot but as I only usually share one picture per blog I’ve chosen to focus on a fatherhood portrait. With every photoshoot I combine a mixture of family portraits, newborn portraits, mother & baby, father & baby and of course sibling photography. I want to capture every aspect of that moment in time in the most beautiful way possible.

For me timeless black & white photography always brings me joy. I never tire of creating shots like these. The beauty and simplicity of a pure black and white photograph speaks to me more than any other.

When photographing Dads with newborns I like to show the scale of the baby. One of the best ways to do this is to create this beautiful “tiger in the woods” sleeping pose. With Dad gently holding his new baby in his arm like the branch of a tree. I guess with the passing of time there really is only a very small window when your baby fits into this position. It is heaven to capture a shot like this and to see it take shape in my editing suite after the photoshoot.

Baby photography in West London – fatherhood portrait

The beauty of this shot is the size of his hands cupping his babies head and her little arms and legs dangling down. I love everything about this moment and can see it being treasured and admired for many years to come. I think the face that it is black & white draws you into the portrait even more. Focussing on the babies exquisite features and the gentle caring expression on her fathers face. I always look for moments like these in every photoshoot I do. I’m looking to capture that moment for the parents that they will hold onto forever.

Baby Photography in Dulwich

Beautiful Baby Photography in Dulwich

I am so happy to share this beautiful newborn picture from a recent baby photography session in Dulwich. When asked to photograph a newborn at home my first thought is always; how to make this experience as easy as possible for the new parents. With beautiful photographs of their baby to treasure forever. I have been photographing newborn babies in London and beyond for over 12 years now and so it is safe to say that I’ve learnt a few key techniques over the years!

As a baby photographer it is important that you have patience, understanding an ability to put people at ease and of course an eye for detail and a beautiful shot. Some of these can be learnt over time and through experience. But I think mostly it has to be part of your character.

What I love most about being a newborn, baby and family photographer in London is that each photoshoot and each family I meet are completely unique. I am lucky to meet and work with so many wonderful families. As many of you who have met me will know I love getting to know people. Perhaps this is why I have been working in this field for so long! A large part of what I do is definitely driven by the desire to produce something lasting for the families I photograph. A truly special and original photograph of their new baby, children or family to cherish and pass down from generation to generation.

Baby photography at home in Dulwich

I was first contacted by Dad for to book this photoshoot after the excitement of the birth of his beautiful little baby! He explained to me that they were in the middle of building work at their Dulwich home. I was glad to tell him that this is no problem for me or for the newborn portraits as I will bring my portable studio to their home. This enables me to create the perfect backdrops and settings without any distractions of the background. In this case it meant that we could find a calm room in the house away from the building work to create our private newborn studio.

With my suitcase of delicate, handmade baby outfits there was no need for the new parents to prepare anything. As always I want everyone to relax and enjoy the session.

This is one of the many newborn pictures captured during our photoshoot. I wanted to share this today as I think it is so simple and sweet. The little shorts and teddy bear hat are, of course, provided by me. The baby is sleeping happily on my soft beanbag and fabric backdrop. Tiny & perfect.

Won’t this look stunning framed in their Dulwich home when all the building work is completed!

Maternity Photography in Pimlico London

Maternity photography in Pimlico London

It’s always an honour for me to be asked to photograph maternity & newborn portraits for a family. To be part of the journey from bump to baby is just a beautiful time to share.

With my work I get to meet and work with so many families across London, Kent & Surrey. No photoshoot is ever the same and I love learning their stories, sharing time with them and of course capturing beautiful memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

What strikes me most in each maternity photoshoot that I do are the different moments I capture. There is an ease that always comes mid session. When we have been chatting for a while and sharing our stories. (I am known to chat a lot about pregnancy and things that I found helpful when I was expecting). It’s in that moment that I often capture a beautiful effortless portrait that just has a flow and energy to it.

This portrait has that for me! There is joy and celebration to it which I love! It happened quickly. I said ‘whoosh it out a bit at the side!” and that was it! This was taken at my Client’s home in Pimlico London and I was very excited to return a few weeks later to meet their newborn baby.

My Client’s are often surprised to hear that these pictures were captured at home. I bring my portable studio complete with backdrop, lighting, reflectors, wind machine and silks all to you! There is no need to leave your front door. That’s very important to me with all of my photoshoots. As a mother of two I want this experience to be joyful and memorable.

Is Maternity Photography right for me?

There are key moments in our lives that we would want to have a record of and to look back on in years to come. Photography for you and your family is a beautiful investment to make and one you will enjoy for the rest of your lives.

I view maternity portraits as a celebration of becoming a mother. A present to yourself and a record for your children of how you embraced carrying them for 9 months. How much you treasured them before they were born.

I like to capture natural and elegant moments. These can be tasteful maternity portraits that shoe the belly or more covered shots, whatever you prefer I will work with you to achieve the portraits you would like.

When to Book?

I am always happy to try to squeeze in last minute bookings if I have space although if possible early booking is recommended. Bookings are now open for maternity photoshoots from August onwards, for availability click here to contact me

Maternity Photography Bexleyheath London

Maternity Photographer Bexleyheath London

I have many favourite images from this maternity photography session in Bexleyheath. This gorgeous little family pet, I have to say almost stole the show! I am often asked to include family pets in my maternity, newborn, baby and family photoshoots. After all they are an important member of the family! This gorgeous dog waited patiently all session until his big moment! He was delighted when it was his time to shine!

I absolutely love this shot. A sweet moment captured before the new arrival enters the home! Over the years I’ve included many pets in photoshoots, mostly dog portraits but occasionally cats if they agree to join! It’s always lots of fun and adds another element to the photoshoot. I love animals so I’m always happy to include them and spend time with them during the session. I have to say this little fella was very well behaved through both our maternity & newborn photoshoots. The perfect model!

As well as classic maternity portraits using my silks and more natural portraits that show the beauty of the belly I like to include a few clothed pictures as well. This fitted black dress looks great with my white backdrop. I shoot against a white and a black backdrop during these sessions. There are always plenty of images to choose from and it’s often hard to edit the images down as there are so many! I love classic black & white photography. It gives the images an edge and work particularly well with this portrait.

A trick of light

With a clever change of lighting beautiful affects can be created during your maternity photoshoot. I bring everything that is needed to your home to create professional studio results like these. I love working with light and creating a different feel to the images.

Working from the homes of the families I photograph also means we have access to their own personal wardrobes as well as the items I bring. Allowing us to create individual styles that suit their personality and reflect much more of who they are. Each photoshoot is unique and I’m always thrilled to see how the pictures turn out after my sessions.

I like to take my time to get to know my subjects which is why I only book one photoshoot per day. So that I will never be rushing off to get to the next person. It’s a very personal and individual experience.

Maternity Photographer Oxshott Surrey

Maternity Photographer Oxshott Surrey

For this maternity photoshoot I travelled to the very pretty and leafy suburb of Oxshott in Surrey. These portraits go back to my initial love of photography. The reason I started taking pictures was to create classic black & white portraits. I have never fallen out of love with this style of image.

I’ve chosen one shot from our photoshoot for this blog post. With a pure silk wrap and my wind machine. This maternity portrait is simple and yet effective. There is nothing more needed to capture the beauty of pregnancy.

Maternity Portraits – a celebration of motherhood

Maternity portraits are a celebration of becoming a mother. Recently I have absolutely loved looking at the iconic portraits of Rhianna and how she has embraced her pregnant shape. Isn’t it wonderful to see!  Photographed for Vogue by none other than Annie Leibovitz. Bringing back powerful memories of Demi Moore in the 90’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. Also photographed by AL of course. This was the shot that broke the mould! That created a stir and gave women the confidence to celebrate their pregnancies. It was never intended to be the cover. I love how AL talks about that moment in her book Annie Leibovitz At Work. If you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend checking it out.

Working as a maternity photographer and of course also as a newborn, baby and family photographer there is always a certain level of intimacy to my photoshoots. I like to travel to the homes of the families I photograph. Not only does this help to create a relaxed atmosphere for the photoshoot. It also provides privacy & comfort for these portraits. Not to mention taking the need to travel across London away from the new or expectant parents. I’ve always wanted to help as much as possible to make the experience as stress free as possible in that respect. My aim as soon as I enter the home is to put everyone at ease. I hopefully succeed most of the time!

I’ve always looked at maternity portraits as creating a wonderful record for the mother and her children. To celebrate everything that she did to bring her children into the world.

Newborn Photography in Greenwich

Newborn Photography in Greenwich

There are so many beautiful moments of calm during a newborn photography session. This picture sums those moments up perfectly for me. Also how these precious moments as a parent feel. You wait for ages (or so it feels!) for your newborn to finally rest their weary eyes and then when they do fall asleep you spend that time staring in awe at them or looking through photographs of them. They are just too precious and to quote another parent recently “newborns are pure magic!”

This picture with the two little teddy bears reminds me of a story book. It’s as if they are going on an adventure together. Of course Michale Rosens classic “We’re going on a bear hunt” springs to mind! I read this countless times with my children over the years and sang it as we walked through parks, woods and holding their little hands as they skipped along the wall. the most beautiful memories that will stay in my heart always. Which is why I entitled this picture ‘Bear Hunt’ on my Elle_Fallon instagram page. Do head over there to see some recent pictures from this and many other newborn photoshoots. I would love to receive your comments and please do follow me for more up to date work.

I can imaging this picture in a beautiful frame on the nursery wall or lovingly displayed in his Grandparents homes. Passed down to future generations and treasured by his parents forever. I’m so happy I was able to capture it for them.

As a London photographer I’m used to travelling to all corners of London and even some parts of Surrey & Kent. I do love south East London though which has been my home for over 20 years since I first moved to this beautiful city from the tiny far away Isle of the Isle of Wight. With Greenwich as one of my absolute favourite corners for a multitude of reasons that those who love Greenwich will know! One of the main reasons is of course the endless days I have spent there with my own children. Exploring the parks, soaking in the history and meeting with friends & families. I don’t think I could ever tire of Greenwich.

As I’m always travelling through different parts of London to visit the families I photograph, I do also get to explore a little. After 11 years of family photography I feel I know lots of corners and pockets of this incredible city. Aren’t we lucky that with every turn we feel we are walking the steps of so many great people before us. With each cobbled street and building telling a story of past travellers, writers, artists, photographers, families, traders and explorers! I could get lost in this city for hours and have done and hope to continue to do so.

I wonder what the adventures of this little one will bring!
