In Picturing Britain, Adil Ray examines the country through the lens of it’s most distinctive photographers.
In this second programme Adil meets Andy Fallon, a music photographer whose gritty, authentic style enlivens Britain’s music magazines and newspapers. As he shoots the indie band Wild Beasts, Adil gets a glimpse into the artistry and gaffa tape behind the taking of iconic music photographs.
His wife Elle was also a music photographer, but she has left behind the mud of Glastonbury and crush of concerts, to take classic black and white portraits of bumps and babies. Adil hears how women, four weeks before their birth, no longer hide in tent-shaped clothes but celebrate the beauty of their changing bodies.

These were taken at a pregnancy photography session I did for a lovely family in Camberwell, South East London followed by a newborn baby photography session a few days later as their daughter decided to arrive a few hours after the pregnancy photography session!
It was a wonderful experience to be with this family at such a special time, I couldn’t believe it when Emma told me her water broke 45 minutes after I left! Both session were very calm and relaxed carried out in their own home in Camberwell South East London.
Big sister Ella had lots of energy during both session and kept us very well entertained! You can feel the warmth and personalities of each of them in these portraits and it’s wonderful to capture so many tender moments.

These are a few of the portraits taken during my baby portrait session in Canada Water, South East London with this lovely 8 month old baby boy.
He was such a bundle of fun throughout the shoot, I love capturing babies at different stages and this is a lovely age to photograph as he was able to sit up unaided and there was plenty of singing and toy squeaking going on to keep him entertained!

Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas (first Christmas for many of the new little people I met last year!) and that 2012 will bring much more joy and happiness to you all!
I’ve had a wonderful start to the year meeting Liz in Highbury & Islington today for her pregnancy photo session at 36 weeks pregnant – she looked beautiful! Our session was very relaxed at Liz’s home and I was able to capture some beautiful shots based on some ideas Liz had – the results are stunning. We chatted about pregnancy and photography and Liz commented that there would unlikely be another time that she would feel comfortable being photographed in such an intimate way. The portraits are stunning and Liz looks so comfortable and confident with her bump – there’s is a certain glow during pregnancy and I love capturing this on camera.
