Good morning All,
What a wet, cold and windy start to the week – oh and snowy! I’m tucked away in my editing suite this morning working on some of my recent portrait sessions and this image is so heart warming I thought it was the perfect one to share on a day like today!
Each time I visit a family for their newborn session I’m looking to create a visual record for them of this wonderful time, working around the baby and his/her pattern of sleep I like to capture mother & baby and father & baby portraits, as well as portraits of the new family together and beautiful sleeping poses of the new arrival on his/her own. If other member of the family are present such as Grandparents then I love to include them in the session – a portrait of three generations of one family is priceless as are the doting expressions on the new Grandparents faces!
I use a selection of soft hand made knitted items such as this lovely crochet scarf which was made for me by a Japanese lady – it is so delicate with a beautiful cobweb feel that it felt perfect for this family portrait taken at a newborn session in Islington.
Each portrait session is unique and the poses are based around what the new family feel comfortable with – more often than not the poses just happen naturally without my direction or input. I love the closeness of skin on skin portraits and this one is so tender and elegant.
Thank you to the lovely new parents for permission to share some of their portraits with you all!

There is nothing that touches me more than the delicate beautify of a newborn baby and the overwhelming love that the new parents feel towards their new arrival.
Each of my newborn portrait sessions presents me with a unique new person to photograph with their whole life ahead of them, it is hard to find words to describe how I feel about photographing newborns but I’m incredibly glad to be part of the beginning of their journey.
I’m often asked how much space is required for my sessions which all take place in my Clients homes, the answer is ‘as much as is available to me when I arrive’. I’m used to working on location and sometimes that means finding space in the smallest of rooms and adapting my portable studio – you would be amazed at how many of my portraits have been created in a compact space including bedrooms and even hallways!
What is important to me is that the experience for both parents and baby is one that is relaxed, enjoyable and memorable. I will work around the family to make sure that the session runs smoothly and if I’m a photographing a newborn baby extra care is taken to ensure they are safe, warm and content.
At a recent photography session, I was chatting to the new mum whilst she was feeding her baby daughter and she said something that is so true and that I felt when I had my daughter two years ago and that is that the baby stage doesn’t last long enough. Before you know it your little one is crawling and then walking and well then they are toddlers with independent thought!
As a new mother you have been on an incredible journey carrying your first child for nine months and I feel that for the first six months at least after your baby is born the connection is so strong that you still feel you are feeling and experiencing things for them.
This portrait of a beautiful little girl in a knitted ‘pod’ was taken at her newborn photography session in Islington. I think she looks completely serene!

An additional portrait taken at this lovely family photoshoot in Clapham, I love this shot of baby Joe and his Mum – their faces show how much fun we were having during our photo session and also how much joy Joe is bringing to the family!

I had to post this picture of lovely baby Joe taken at his First birthday photography session at his home in Clapham.
He was one of the happiest little chaps I have photographed (although they are mostly pretty happy!) and inbetween portraits he liked to show me how fast he could get around the house on his little scooter bike – he’d chosen to learn how to scoot before he could walk as it’s a much quicker way of getting around so already very smart!
I love photographing babies and toddlers – their expressions are so wonderful and it’s always lots of fun trying to coax those smiles out!

My goodness it’s cold outside today! I spent a lovely morning taking my toddler to singing group followed by a very chilly run around Hilly Fields park in Brockley.
We’re having lots of fun with imaginative play at the moment, she absolutely loves to pretend to be a pirate or the captain of the ship in the park while I’m always the skipper who nearly falls off the boat and needs to be saved!
This afternoon I’m working on some of my recent newborn photography sessions whilst putting aside some of my favourite images to update my website. Here is another one from the lovely baby portrait session in Hoxton which I posted yesterday – baby Emma really striking a pose for the camera! A born natural 😉
Thank you for looking and I hope you all manage to stay out of the cold today!

Before I rush out the door for my next private viewing appointment in Islington this afternoon (a wonderful family portrait session with a one year old girl and I can’t wait to show them their gallery!).
I thought I’d add this lovely baby portrait taken at a recent newborn photography session in Richmond. I love the fact that little Seth looked straight at the camera and smiled just at the right moment!
I’m often spending time during my newborn sessions helping parents settle their little ones to sleep so that I can capture some beautiful newborn poses but I also love these beautiful wide awake shots as it always amazes me how alert these little people are at just a few days old.
This is one of my favourite newborn poses as it really emphasises how small we all were ‘when we had just begun’ – fitting neatly into the length of your Daddys arm.
