Maternity and Newborn Photographer London

A stunning black & white maternity portrait to share with you today. Working as a maternity & newborn photographer in London over the last 13 years I have loved capturing beautiful moments like these. I love the celebratory feel of a maternity photoshoot. The anticipation of waiting for the new arrival and knowing I will be back in just a few weeks to meet and photograph the newborn baby.

When should I book my maternity photoshoot?

I recommend booking your maternity photoshoot with me as soon as possible after your 20 week scan. Here is a quick step by step guide to booking your session:

  1. Contact me via my booking page
  2. I will email the full pricing details and information about my maternity photoshoots.
  3. I often arrange a time for a phone call so that we will chat through details. I like to explain how my photoshoot’s work so that you can decide if I am the right photographer for you.
  4. Next you can decide if you would like to book just the maternity photography session or the maternity & newborn photography package.
  5. I do recommend booking both as it is so wonderful to have the same photographer for both sessions.
  6. A date is arranged for your maternity photoshoot at home.
  7. Leave the rest to me! I will bring everything to your home so that you don’t have to do a thing!

Maternity Photography Bexleyheath London

Maternity Photographer Bexleyheath London

I have many favourite images from this maternity photography session in Bexleyheath. This gorgeous little family pet, I have to say almost stole the show! I am often asked to include family pets in my maternity, newborn, baby and family photoshoots. After all they are an important member of the family! This gorgeous dog waited patiently all session until his big moment! He was delighted when it was his time to shine!

I absolutely love this shot. A sweet moment captured before the new arrival enters the home! Over the years I’ve included many pets in photoshoots, mostly dog portraits but occasionally cats if they agree to join! It’s always lots of fun and adds another element to the photoshoot. I love animals so I’m always happy to include them and spend time with them during the session. I have to say this little fella was very well behaved through both our maternity & newborn photoshoots. The perfect model!

As well as classic maternity portraits using my silks and more natural portraits that show the beauty of the belly I like to include a few clothed pictures as well. This fitted black dress looks great with my white backdrop. I shoot against a white and a black backdrop during these sessions. There are always plenty of images to choose from and it’s often hard to edit the images down as there are so many! I love classic black & white photography. It gives the images an edge and work particularly well with this portrait.

A trick of light

With a clever change of lighting beautiful affects can be created during your maternity photoshoot. I bring everything that is needed to your home to create professional studio results like these. I love working with light and creating a different feel to the images.

Working from the homes of the families I photograph also means we have access to their own personal wardrobes as well as the items I bring. Allowing us to create individual styles that suit their personality and reflect much more of who they are. Each photoshoot is unique and I’m always thrilled to see how the pictures turn out after my sessions.

I like to take my time to get to know my subjects which is why I only book one photoshoot per day. So that I will never be rushing off to get to the next person. It’s a very personal and individual experience.

Maternity Photographer Oxshott Surrey

Maternity Photographer Oxshott Surrey

For this maternity photoshoot I travelled to the very pretty and leafy suburb of Oxshott in Surrey. These portraits go back to my initial love of photography. The reason I started taking pictures was to create classic black & white portraits. I have never fallen out of love with this style of image.

I’ve chosen one shot from our photoshoot for this blog post. With a pure silk wrap and my wind machine. This maternity portrait is simple and yet effective. There is nothing more needed to capture the beauty of pregnancy.

Maternity Portraits – a celebration of motherhood

Maternity portraits are a celebration of becoming a mother. Recently I have absolutely loved looking at the iconic portraits of Rhianna and how she has embraced her pregnant shape. Isn’t it wonderful to see!  Photographed for Vogue by none other than Annie Leibovitz. Bringing back powerful memories of Demi Moore in the 90’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. Also photographed by AL of course. This was the shot that broke the mould! That created a stir and gave women the confidence to celebrate their pregnancies. It was never intended to be the cover. I love how AL talks about that moment in her book Annie Leibovitz At Work. If you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend checking it out.

Working as a maternity photographer and of course also as a newborn, baby and family photographer there is always a certain level of intimacy to my photoshoots. I like to travel to the homes of the families I photograph. Not only does this help to create a relaxed atmosphere for the photoshoot. It also provides privacy & comfort for these portraits. Not to mention taking the need to travel across London away from the new or expectant parents. I’ve always wanted to help as much as possible to make the experience as stress free as possible in that respect. My aim as soon as I enter the home is to put everyone at ease. I hopefully succeed most of the time!

I’ve always looked at maternity portraits as creating a wonderful record for the mother and her children. To celebrate everything that she did to bring her children into the world.
